PHILOSOPHY, EXPERTISE AND INSPIRATION

Scott Formby Design, with studios in Los Angeles and New York City, creates exceptional spaces that are tailored to reflect each client’s singular personality and vision. Specializing in distinctive homes, Scott delivers designs that balance individuality with sophistication.

Expertise extends beyond aesthetics. With a deep understanding of interior architecture, Scott ensures every design choice and implementation—whether lighting, surface materials, appliances, fixtures, custom furnishings, or millwork—support a cohesive vision. Scott offers a highly personalized approach, guiding clients through every stage of a project—whether it’s a new build, full-scale renovation, or smaller redesign. His strategic advice covers project timing, cost estimates, and maximizing both function and visual impact through informed design choices.

Inspiration is drawn from the site’s architecture, with a belief in harmonizing exteriors and interiors. Scott draws from global influences and his education at Parsons School of Design and Brown University, blending color, texture, and artisanal elements. A passion for nature, mixing the old and with the new, and integrating his clients own collections are his signature.

The finished effect is a highly personal environment that inspires a richer, more meaningful life.

BACKGROUND

Scott Formby's talents in interior design became apparent through a career that began with a part-time position in the Home Design division of Ralph Lauren while studying at Parsons. Although his career took an early detour into fashion design—as Creative Director and Designer at some of the most iconic brands in American fashion (including Ralph Lauren, J. CREW, and Geoffrey Beene)—he eventually returned to his love of interior/home design as the Global Creative Director of Frette.

It was at this iconic home textile manufacturer that Scott was able to expand his scope.  In addition to designing for Frette in Milan and New York City, he was also able to consult on residences worldwide and participate in two seminal designer show houses in New York City. His work at Frette also included Creative Direction and Design in the Hospitality sector—working closely with world-class hotels developing textiles and products for each property. Clients included the Ritz-Carlton Group, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, Soho House, Surf Lodge and Kimpton Hotels.
