ABOUT SCOTT FORMBY
LUXERY RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DESIGNER IN LOS ANGELES AND NEW YORK
Scott Formby leads a full-service high-end residential interior design studio with studios in Los Angeles and New York City. His work centers on homes that feel personal, layered, and deeply considered — interiors shaped by a cohesive vision rather than isolated decisions.
Each project begins with the architecture and the way a client lives within it. Whether designing a new build, guiding a major renovation, or reimagining an existing residence through comprehensive furnishing, Scott approaches the home as a complete environment. Proportion, materiality, lighting, custom furnishings, and the integration of art and objects are all considered within a
unified framework.
With a strong understanding of interior architecture and construction, he collaborates closely with architects, contractors, artisans, and fabricators to ensure that the design intent carries through at every stage. His process is highly personal and strategic — advising on scope, timing, and material investment while maintaining clarity and restraint.
Scott works nationally, with projects in Los Angeles, New York, and points in between. While the studio is primarily focused on high-end residential interiors, select commercial and hospitality projects are undertaken when aligned with the design approach.
Inspiration is drawn from the site itself, with a belief that exterior and interior should speak the same language. Global influences, a respect for craftsmanship, and an appreciation for the dialogue between old and new inform his work. Integrating a client’s own collections and history is often central to the process, creating homes that feel established rather than newly assembled.
The result is a highly personal interior — refined, enduring, and aligned with the way its occupants live.
BACKGROUND
Scott’s foundation in design began at Brown University, where he studied International Relations while simultaneously undertaking design coursework at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He later continued his formal design training at Parsons School of Design in New York, working in the Home Design division of Ralph Lauren while completing his studies.
His career expanded into fashion, serving as Creative Director and Designer for Ralph Lauren, J.Crew, and Geoffrey Beene, before returning to the home sector as Global Creative Director of Frette, the heritage luxury textile house based in Milan and New York. In addition to leading product design at Frette, Scott consulted on private residences worldwide and participated in two New York City designer show houses. His work extended into hospitality and commercial design, collaborating with leading hotel groups including The Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, Soho House, Surf Lodge, and
Kimpton Hotels.
